End the Wait Every Morning for a Hot Shower
ByDo you like taking cold showers? Of course not, that’s why you run (wait for) the hot water for a few minutes before stepping into the shower.
No one likes to wait.
If you have always had to wait for hot water, you probably just accept it. You might not even know there is a way to solve this problem. Or you may just assume (I don’t blame you if you do) that if a solution was available, it would cost too much.
No one likes waste.
Have you stopped to think what happens to the gallons of water that runs down the drain during the wait?
Water is wasted, and if your family takes four showers per day, that can add up to thousands of gallons per year. This waste multiplied over just a few hundred homes adds up to a significant loss. Your neighborhood alone pours millions of gallons of water down the drain and into the wastewater system every single year.
In typical plumbing, water is pumped from the water heater through the pipes to your shower. Once the shower or bath is shut off, the water remaining in the pipes cools back down to the temperature in your home. A water temperature of 68 to 72 degrees feels really cold in the shower. A comfortable temperature doesn’t come until hot water travels the whole distance from the hot water heater to your shower.
In California, and especially here in Southern Cal, water conservation is critical.
Water conservation is required in most our of the cities in San Diego County. Limited landscape watering days and penalties for wasting water is today’s reality.
People are encouraged to find any reasonable means to eliminate waste and find areas where they can reduce their water consumption. Many families have gone beyond the mandated (minimum) water saving efforts. Although I can’t find any saving measures that directly benefit the homeowner like recirculated hot water.
Mednick’s Plumbing can eliminate your wait for hot water and at the same time give you another way to conserve water.
We buy and install recirculating pumps. A recirculating (recirc) pump constantly circulates hot water through the pipes from the heater to the furthest fixture. The whole house (not just the shower) gets hot water at the ready. A properly installed recirc pump keeps the water in your pipes hot which means:
- No more waiting for the shower to get hot. And for those of you often run late in the morning you’ll find that extra minute or two when you need it the most.
- No more wasting water before jumping into the shower. You found another way to do your your part to conserve water.
